In 1990, a small group of Fairfax County Police Officers were concerned about a host of issues challenging a department and community in the midst of unprecedented change and expansion. The new organization would focus on pay, benefits and working conditions, areas where employees may not have had as much input in the past. The Fairfax Coalition of Police was born.
The new organization had a host of national organizations to affiliate itself with, but chose the International Union of Police Associations (IUPA). With its emphasis on law enforcement related labor issues, IUPA could provide the Coalition with the support it needed and a national network while allowing the Coalition to be an independent organization, governed and directed by its members.
Today, nearly 30 years after those humble beginnings, the Fairfax Coalition of Police remains focused on its mission: to advocate for the best pay, benefits, and working conditions for Fairfax County Police Officers, so that the department attracts, and retains, the best Officers working tirelessly for the communities they serve 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
